QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: No GROHL At Next Batch Of Dates

July 17, 2002

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE will not utilize the services of FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl on drums for their next batch of dates. As previously reported, Grohl was behind the kit for QUEENS' upcoming Interscope album, Songs for the Deaf, and a spring North American club tour, but will play his last show with QUEENS on July 28th at the Fuji Rock Festival in Nigata, Japan.

QUEENS' next round of shows will begin on August 30th in Washington, D.C. Dates are still being filled in but as of now, the trek is set through September 21st in Columbia, Missouri. Songs for the Deaf is due in stores on August 27th.

"It was one of the most fun tours I ever did," Oliveri told Billboard.com about the recent dates with Grohl. "He's definitely one of the best drummers I've ever played with. But after Fuji Festival on the 28th, we're going to be jamming with a couple of other people." When pressed for details, Oliveri would only say, "there are a couple of different people in mind but I can't say for sure who that's going to be."

One detail that is set is the new album's first single, which will be "No One Knows". A video is being completed in Los Angeles this week with director Michel Gondry. As for the concept, Oliveri revealed with a hearty laugh, "We're actually out hunting. We're trying to get some deer. And you know, weird twists happen and we're the ones that end up being tied on the hood!"

As for Grohl, he'll be returning to the FOO FIGHTERS fold to finish work on the group's fourth, as-yet-untitled RCA album, due on October 22nd. The FOOS play the UK's Reading and Leeds festivals in late August.
